It was with a winning smile that I got back home at about 20.45 tonight. It has been a long running day, quite literally.
The above picture was taken about 05.50 this morning when I finally decided I would run into work. The 20Km run to work
has a descending profile but today it was -3.0 degrees Centigrade. And there is windchill by the lake. In other words flippin freezing!
The main deciding factors for running and not driving were:
- I am still +3Kg over my best summer weight of Summer 2011. And this is despite an almost daily desert run, or daily dive or multi Km swim on our recent Oman holiday
- Today might be cold, but tomorrow should be down to -6 degrees Centigrade at 06.00. Brrrrrr indeed.
- The 20Km run burns over 1500 calories and that makes for a guilt free lunchtime
- I'm just starting to listen to The Drop by Michael Connelly and a nice long run with no distractions gives me some time to get into the plot.
- Saved 4Kg of driving Co2
Several hours later it started to get dark. Now the difficult decision. Run home (2 hours plus), or train home to Lausanne (16 minutes !!)
Obviously I chose to run!
There is no good news about the running back profile, flat for 14Km then hill for 6Km.
Also running in the dark without a head torch on a snow covered and icy path is far from ideal. Two near twisted ankles later I slowed down (that's my excuse eh!)
So having left after 18.00 from Vevey it was about 20.45 when I had got back home, frozen to the bone, but not really tired. Temperature is now -3.7 degrees before windchill. Brrrr indeed.
Stats
