SPEED!
And now this targus dock (now shipping) contains features like
- DVI and HDMI vido ports with upto 2048x1152 pixels
- Gigabit ethernet
- 4 x USB 2.0 ports
- 2 x USB 3.0 ports
In assoiciated news Intel is now prouncing its Z77 H77 and Q77 chipsets will for the first time include USB 3.0 native support.
Meanwhile Intel's Lightpeak interface (now renamed Thunderbolt because Apple told them so) may become available on non Apple hardware. Of course not yet freely available Thunderbolt design guide is available yet - thanks Intel.
So what is the current state of play?
- USB 3.0 has no native Intel Chipset support today (quite disgraceful really Intel)
- Intel promises USB 3.0 native support with *77 Panther Peak chipsets debuting 2012
- Intel also hints at Thunderbolt availability in the PC realm
- Today most Apple computers are equipped with a [copper] Thunderbolt interface
- But the Apple Thunderbolt interface is 99.9% unusable for anything, except perhaps a Lacie external disk.
- USB 3.0 docks and external peripherals (especially disks) are now commonplace. USB 3 interfaces are commonplace on practically every new PC design and on unavailable on any Apple platform
